Governance failures in the MENA region — from authoritarian consolidation to judicial capture to the marginalization of women, minorities, and political opposition — are at the root of many human rights crises. Without accountability, civic space shrinks. Without inclusive institutions, rights remain formal rather than lived.
HuMENA works on governance and justice through advocacy for democratic reform, analysis of legal and constitutional frameworks, and support for actors working toward more inclusive political systems. This area explicitly encompasses gender and sexuality rights as a dimension of governance — recognizing that justice is incomplete without the full inclusion of all communities.
