HuMENA for Human Rights and Civic Engagement Unveils New Themes of Work

Brussels,

HuMENA for Human Rights and Civic Engagement is proud to announce the launch of our new work themes aimed at advancing human rights and fostering civic engagement in the MENA region. These themes reflect our commitment to empowering communities, defending civil liberties, and advocating for justice and equality.

  1. Civic Space Activism:

Empowering communities to reclaim civic spaces, foster dialogue, and amplify citizen voices. Our objectives include promoting civic education, advocating for transparent civic spaces, and strengthening civil society organizations’ capacity for positive change.

  1. Activism in Exile:

Standing with exiled activists, ensuring their safety, resilience, and continued impact. We facilitate connections between exiled activists and local movements, advocate for their safety and well-being, strengthen their capacities, and amplify their voices on international platforms.

  1. Gender and Sexuality Activism:

Committed to gender equality and LGBTQ+ rights. Our goals include combating discrimination and violence, promoting legal reforms, and empowering marginalized communities through education and advocacy.

  1. Democracy and Justice Activism:

Upholding the rule of law, strengthening democratic institutions, and ensuring justice for all. We monitor elections, advocate for an impartial legal system, and combat corruption and impunity.

  1.  Social Movements:

Amplifying local voices and supporting grassroots movements. We provide resources, training, and networking opportunities, bridge gaps between different movements, and foster collective action for systemic impact.

  1. Civil Rights Activism:

Defending civil liberties, safeguarding fundamental rights, and promoting justice. Our objectives include monitoring and responding to violations, educating communities about their rights, and advocating for legal protections.

  1. Digital Activism:

Harnessing digital platforms to advocate for human rights and counter repression. We develop innovative campaigns and tools, promote digital literacy, and safeguard online spaces for activism. We also address Tech Harms Against People and Democratic Rights in the MENA Region, along with the impact of Big Tech failures on human rights and digital rights.

“We are excited to embark on this journey of advancing human rights and civic engagement in the MENA region,” said Mostafa Fouad, Head of Programs. “These new themes of work reflect our unwavering commitment to creating a more just and equitable society.”
