Call for Researchers: Lebanon and Tunisia

About the Role:

We are seeking dedicated researchers to contribute to our mission of promoting the right to Freedom of Peaceful assembly (FoPA) in Lebanon and Tunisia. As a researcher, you will play a crucial role in documenting violations, analyzing legal frameworks, and shedding light on challenges faced by human rights defenders (HRDs) and women human rights defenders (WHRDs) in the context of freedom of peaceful assembly (FoPA).

 

Responsibilities:

  1. In-Depth Analysis & Contextual Understanding:

– Conduct an in-depth analysis of each country’s legislative framework related to freedom of peaceful assembly (FoPA).

– Examine challenges encountered by activists when exercising their right to peaceful assembly.

– Evaluate the current political and social contexts in Lebanon and Tunisia.

– Collaborate with local organizations to gain nuanced insights into the challenges faced by HRDs.

–     Stakeholder Mapping for key CSOs working on the right to Freedom of Peaceful Assembly (FoPA).

 

  1. Documentation of Violation Cases:

– Conduct desk reviews and key informant interviews with HRDs and WHRDs.

– Identify and document at least two cases of lived violations of the right to peaceful assembly.

– Highlight the obstacles activists encounter while advocating for their rights.

– Provide evidence-based documentation to support advocacy efforts.

 

Qualifications:

– A strong commitment to human rights and social justice.

– Proficiency in research related to the right to Freedom of Peaceful assembly (FoPA).

– Excellent communication skills in Arabic, both written and verbal.

– resident in Lebanon or Tunisia

– Ability to work collaboratively with local partners and organizations.

– Sensitivity to cultural contexts and understanding the impact of shrinking civic spaces on promoting harmful narratives against HRDs.
