Tunisia’s trajectory since the 2011 revolution has made it a critical focus for civic space monitoring. Once considered the region’s most promising democratic transition, the country has experienced a sharp reversal since 2021, with the concentration of executive power, the dissolution of democratic institutions, and increasing restrictions on civil society, media, and political opposition.
HuMENA documents these developments, advocates for the protection of civic freedoms, and supports Tunisian civil society actors working to preserve democratic gains. Our work on Tunisia spans civic space, governance, and the protection of defenders facing judicial harassment.
