Sofiane Ouali is an Algerian lawyer who defends prisoners of conscience and those prosecuted for exercising their fundamental rights. He met with the UN Special Rapporteur in December 2023. He was arrested after a peaceful sit-in in July 2024 and provisionally released on 18 July 2024, the day he was charged. He remains on trial on terrorism charges before the Dar El Beida criminal court in Algiers.
