HuMENA advances human rights and civic engagement across the Middle East and North Africa through five interconnected areas of work. Each reflects a dimension of the challenges facing civil society in the region — and the strategies communities are using to respond.
Our work spans the protection of human rights defenders under threat, the defense of civic space and fundamental freedoms, the advancement of digital rights, the pursuit of inclusive governance and justice, and engagement with diaspora and exile communities.
These areas are not separate silos. A digital rights case in Egypt intersects with civic space. A defender at risk in Bahrain implicates governance failures. A diaspora activist’s work connects exile to homeland. HuMENA works across these intersections.
